About the company

BUSH’S® is all about family, friends that feel like family, and a certain Secret Family Recipe. When you enjoy our beans (doesn’t matter if they’re baked beans, black beans, pinto beans, great northern beans … you get the picture), you can trust that they’re the very best. Because we wouldn’t serve your family anything less. Since we got our start over 100 years ago in Chestnut Hill, Tennessee, BUSH’S has always maintained that quality is the best policy. We pursue excellence and exceptional taste in our beans, sauces and everything we do. That’s why, from mouthwatering Baked Beans to satisfying bean recipes, you’re cooking up the best with BUSH’S BEST®.

The company that would one day be known for beans started out as a tomato cannery in Chestnut Hill, Tennessee. As Americans clamoured for the convenience of canned fruits and vegetables, Bush Brothers & Company added blackberries, peaches, hominy and yes, green beans, products grown, harvested and canned locally in Tennessee.

New can and processing technologies helped the company grow through World War I. However, the end of the war and the crash of the tomato market nearly forced us out of business.

Thankfully, the brothers were able to incorporate in 1922 and canning operations recovered as the market bounced back and the “roaring 20s” breathed fresh life into the tomato and other commodity markets.

During the Great Depression, inexpensive foods like hominy and sauerkraut fed struggling families and helped Bush Brothers & Company operate. The development of Pork & Beans in 1934 was an additional inexpensive staple that quickly became popular.
